I love blogging. It gives me a way to keep in contact with people and I am thankful that this blog exists for two reasons. The first reason is that I like this blog is that I can stay in touch with the people that I have met and worked with here at SI. I am concerned about the continuation of the writing process once I leave here on Friday. I am wondering if I will be able to keep up the writing. The second reason I am liking this blog, is that I can share my writings with people outside of SI. I have enjoyed sharing the link with my friends and hearing their opinions of my writing. It’s very non-threatening. I don’t have to look at the faces of the readers and wonder what they are thinking. I never know who is and who isn’t reading the posts.
I have used the blogs in my classroom. I love doing this with my kids. My second graders, even though slow typers, love to put their thoughts and ideas up on the Internet. They love the fact that they are working like big kids. I, of course, have told them that big kids do this and they just think they are big stuff. My favorite part of it is the fact that I am introducing the parents to something new. Many of these parents don’t know about these things so they are learning along with their children. Blogging is something that the students are going to have to know how to do in the future, so starting now will make it easier for them.
The e-portfolio really doesn’t change my blog too much. I like how it organizes my writings. It makes me more responsible for getting pieces up so that I won’t be working like crazy when it’s time to get all the posts organized. I think the e-portfolio will be a great way to show people what I have accomplished and all the works I have written. I could use this format for my students as a way for the parents to view their student’s work. I am not confident in the whole idea of portfolios so I would just use it as a way to showcase the work rather than use it for grading purposes. It could be a way for the parents to share the work of their child also. I might give that a try this year. Thanks for asking that question!

how do you use blogs in your class? how do you set it up and go about it, I guess is what I’m asking.
